Ballots due
How to vote
  • Move memes from the Bench to your Ballot with + Ballot or by dragging. Rule one out with Cut.
  • Reorder by dragging, the arrows, or typing a number in the rank box to jump a meme to that spot.
  • Click any card to see its summary and the example clip, GIF or link.
  • Search and the sport/type filters work on the Bench and Cut columns.
  • It autosaves in your browser. Add your name and hit Submit; resubmitting overwrites your earlier ballot.
What we're ranking
A sports meme is a moment, image, phrase or format that escaped its game and got reused by people who may never have watched the game. Not the best plays, not the funniest clips. The ones that lived longest and traveled farthest.

What to weigh

  • Reach. Did it get used outside sports? Group chats, politics, your mom.
  • Staying power. Still usable today, or a two-week flash?
  • Reusability. Does it work as a reaction, a caption, a format, a line you can drop into anything?
  • Recognition. Does the image or phrase land without explanation?

To make this ballot, a nominee had to

  • Originate in sports (a game, athlete, coach, fan, broadcaster or league moment).
  • Get reused beyond the original moment: remixed, captioned, quoted or recreated by other people.
  • Be identifiable by a name, phrase or image most sports fans would recognize.
Missing one? Add it under Write-ins in the Ballot column. Something clunky? Tell Jason.
